Central Market Vega
The Mercado Vega Central is located at the southern end of the district of Recoleta, only a few steps away from the Metro station Patronato. In its high sheds are most commonly sold fruits and vegetables, which supply the santiaguinos (name given to the people who are born in Santiago) for over 100years. The large number of stalls offers fresh products for low prices.
This eighteenth century sector, thanks to the construction of Puente Cal y Canto and the presence of small vendors and peddlers, established the La Vega Central in 1916.
This popular industry reflects the historical identity of Santiago.
